We are delighted to have installed 32kWp of Solar PV onto Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Matlock Town Hall head quarters. The electricity generated will help to power the Town Hall and heat the hot water system with any surplus feeding into the National Grid.

To maximise the available flat roof space we installed the 120 Solar panels in an East-West formation. The Solar PV plant should generate 26,431 units of clean electricity saving 12.4 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide from entering the atmosphere each year. The energy  produced and Feed-in Tariff incentive income from the Government will also save the District Council more than £4,500 in energy costs each year.

It’s great to be able to put the otherwise unused space on the roof to good use by saving money on energy bills and reducing carbon emissions.

The District Council’s Leader, Councillor Lewis Rose OBE said: “In times of austerity this is the kind of invest-to-save project we like. We expect the solar panels installation to pay for itself in just seven years – and there’s an environmental impact too as we are now producing clean electricity that reduces our carbon footprint”.

What we thought would happen Vs What actually happened

Before going through the following numbers please do be sure to check out the original case study here. So this is where the proof is in the pudding… when we first visited Peter and Claire at Field Farm, as with all our clients, we made a series of predicted savings, income etc… Well, it’s a year on now so lets just take a look at the reality of those predictions:

Energy Output (per year – kWh): Predicted – 14,614 / Actual – 17,700 (+ 3,086)

CO2 Savings (per year – Tonnes): Predicted – 12.92 / Actual – 15.57 (+ 2.65)

Annual Income (From FIT Scheme): Predicted – £ 2,243 / Actual – £2,716 (+ £473)

Energy Savings (50% usage): Predicted – £1,004 / Actual – £1,216 (+ £212)

Total Value (Earnings + Savings): Predicted – £3,248 / Actual – £3,933 (+ £685)

Return on Investment (1st Year): Predicted – 10.83% / Actual – 13.12% (+ 2.3%)

What we did and the savings it provided

Technology Installed: PV Solar Panels – 60 x Solar World 250W mono mods & SMA

Based in one of the sunnier regions of the UK, Knight Brothers Garage in Thornfalcon knew that solar power would be an ideal way for them to benefit from financial savings – they just didn’t know how much of a saving could be achieved. What they weren’t aware of was the feed-in tariff that applies and the income that would also generate for them. So, when we happily informed them that not only would they gain a saving of £2,001 – but, that they would also benefit from an additional income of £2,703… The desicion was easy for them.

How the benefits break down

The total energy output for the installed system is 16,143kWh per year with this entire set-up producing a CO2 saving of 14.20 tonnes per year. Couple this together with the total financial value of £4,705 (income and savings combined), it’s clear to see why Knight Brothers were so happy with their new PV solar panel installation.

Peter and Claire Foster the owners of Field Farm, wanted to benefit from Solar Power but, were unsure as to where they would receive the greatest benefit. Following a site visit our professional team were pleased to inform them that their newly built barn was facing in the optimal direction. Whilst they both appreciated the financial savings that could be made, their true motive was more about sustainability and teh environmental benefits such a system could have. Using just 50% of the energy produced enable them to see over £1,000 worth of energy savings and in turn generate an additional £2,243 income.

How the benefits break down

The total energy output for the installed system is 14,614kWh per year with this entire set-up producing a CO2 saving of 12.92 tonnes per year. Couple this together with the total financial value of £3,248 (income and savings combined), equals a very happy business.
